PhD degrees in Hindu Philosophy, Ayurvedic Sciences, Yoga, Performing arts and Purohitya

IHU offers PhD degrees in Hindu Philosophy, Ayurvedic Sciences, Yoga, Performing arts and Purohitya.

It also offers Doctor of Purohitya and Doctor of Spiritual Counseling (chaplaincy).

For the PhD degree student must have a Master’s degree either from IHU or an accredited university. Minimum 45 credits are required for the completion of the PhD degree. Moreover, the student is required to defend the thesis and the 3 member committee must approve the PhD dissertation. Student must finish three required courses (9 credits) under the guidance of the advisor. Then in consultation with the advisor the student is required to determine the topic for PhD dissertation. Under the guidance of the advisor the student must take 36 credits of dissertation and write the PhD dissertation. A committee will be formed and student is required to give a progress report at the end of each semester. A student is allowed to take a maximum of 9 credits per semester towards dissertation and must receive a satisfactory grade before registering for further credits. It is recommended that the research work conducted as part of the dissertation credits should be published in a peer reviewed media. This could be either as an article or book, or a journal or conference paper.

The student can submit a PhD dissertation in any language but must seek approval from the PhD committee before pursuing dissertation credits.

For the doctorate degree the student is required to have a Master’s degree. Minimum 45 credits are required for the completion of the Doctorate degree. Student must finish three required courses (9 credits) under the guidance of the advisor. Student must decide the topic of research in consultation with the advisor and complete 36 credits of dissertation with that concentration. A student is allowed to take a maximum of 9 credits per semester towards dissertation and must receive a satisfactory grade before registering for further credits.

PhD Requirements:

For Students Pursuing PhD after already possessing Master’s degree:

45 Credits Required at IHU

For Students Pursuing PhD after Bachelors Degree in hand:

Total 75 Credits required which includes 30 credits required for Masters curriculum.

For those who started Masters Courses in other accredited university but not completed can pursue PhD with IHU whereby maximum 12 credits from other University can be transferred towards the Masters curriculum upon paying 40% of the prescribed fee for the credits being transferred.

Fees:

For US Students $299 per 3 credit course.

For Indian Students : Rs. 14,999 per 3 credit course.

The PhD aspirants should enroll in maximum three and minimum two courses per semester, during the fall and spring semesters and only two courses during the summer semester, as may be advised by the Mentors.

Appropriate fees should be paid at the time of enrollment and the students will have 15 days to withdraw from a particular course for a full refund of the fee, less transaction charges amounting to 5% of each transaction.

After 15 days the fees is non-refundable. It shall be the responsibility of the Mentors to verify with the Administration that the said fee for the courses taken has been paid before the commencement of the course, failing which the Administration may not be able to remunerate the Mentors.

Any scholarships or reductions will only be decided by the Administration, but after discussions with the Mentors.

Students who are pursuing PhD after completion of Bachelors degree can take courses related to Masters Degree as well as PhD simultaneously. However, the PhD will be conferred upon them only after completion of the 75 credits, whereas a Master’s Degree may be conferred when the 30 credits related to Master’s are completed, not considering the credits related to PhD curriculum.

15% of the total credits requirements for each degree should be from the field of Dharmic studies as per the requirements of accreditation society.
