Welcome to the PhD program at International Hindu University. This document outlines the key aspects of our doctoral studies, including admission requirements, credit structure, fees, and course progression.

Program Overview:

The PhD program at IHU is designed to provide rigorous academic training and research opportunities across various disciplines. Our program caters to students with different educational backgrounds, offering flexible pathways to doctoral studies.

Admission Requirements:

  • For Students with a Master's Degree:
    • Total credits required: 45
  • For Students with a Bachelor's Degree:
    • Total credits required: 75 (includes 30 credits for Master's curriculum)
  • For Students with Incomplete Master's Courses:
    • Students who have started but not completed a Master's program at another accredited university can transfer up to 12 credits towards the Master's curriculum at IHU.
    • A fee of 40% of the prescribed credit cost is applicable for transferred credits.

Credit Structure and Course Load:

  • Students should enroll in a minimum of two and a maximum of three courses per semester during fall and spring.
  • Summer semester allows enrollment in up to two courses.
  • Course selection and load will be advised by assigned Mentors.

Fees:

  • For US Students:
    • $299 per 3-credit course
  • For Indian Students:
    • ?14,999 per 3-credit course

Payment and Refund Policy:

  • Fees must be paid at the time of enrollment.
  • Students have a 15-day withdrawal period for a full refund, less 5% transaction charges.
  • After 15 days, fees are non-refundable.

Scholarship and Fee Reduction:

  • Scholarships or fee reductions may be available.
  • Decisions are made by the Administration in consultation with Mentors.

Dharmic Studies Requirement:

  • 15% of total credits for each degree must be in the field of Dharmic studies.
  • This requirement is set by the accreditation society.

Program Structure for Students with a Master's Degree:

  • 15 modules, each worth 3 credits
  • Two modules must be related to Dharmic courses
    • Options include Bhakti Texts, Paurohitya, Chaplaincy, Hindu Philosophy, etc.
  • 13 modules of self-paced research, studies, presentations, etc., as prescribed by the Mentor
  • Students progress to the next module upon satisfactory completion of the current module, as determined by the Mentor

Degree Conferral:

  • PhD is conferred upon completion of all required credits (45 or 75, depending on entry qualification)
  • For students entering with a Bachelor's degree:
    • Master's degree may be conferred upon completion of 30 Master's-level credits
    • PhD conferral requires completion of all 75 credits

Course Progression and Registration:

  1. Register for a module
  2. Pay the required fees
  3. Complete the module work as prescribed by the Mentor
  4. Upon satisfactory completion, progress to the next module
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 until all required modules are completed

Important Notes:

  • Mentors must verify fee payment with Administration before course commencement.
  • The PhD program structure includes all necessary components as determined by Mentors and the board for degree conferral.
