What PhD degrees does International Hindu University offer?

International Hindu University offers PhD degrees in various disciplines, including Hindu Philosophy, Ayurvedic Sciences, Yoga, Performing Arts, and Purohitya. Additionally, IHU also offers the Doctor of Purohitya and Doctor of Spiritual Counseling (Chaplaincy) degrees.

What are the eligibility requirements for pursuing a PhD degree?

To pursue a PhD degree at International Hindu University, applicants must hold a Master’s degree either from IHU or an accredited university. A minimum of 45 credits is required for the completion of the PhD degree.

What is the process for completing a PhD at IHU?

The PhD program at IHU requires students to complete three required courses (9 credits) under the guidance of an advisor. Afterward, in consultation with the advisor, the student determines the topic for their PhD dissertation. The student must then complete 36 credits of dissertation under the guidance of the advisor. A committee is formed to oversee the student's progress, with the student required to give a progress report at the end of each semester.

Can PhD dissertations be submitted in languages other than English?

Yes, PhD dissertations can be submitted in any language; however, approval from the PhD committee must be sought before pursuing dissertation credits.

What are the credit requirements and fees for PhD programs?

For students with a Master’s degree, a total of 45 credits are required at IHU. The fees for courses are $299 per 3-credit course for US students and Rs. 14,999 per 3-credit course for Indian students. Additionally, students are advised to enroll in a maximum of three and a minimum of two courses per semester, with appropriate fees to be paid at the time of enrollment.

Are there any options for students with a Bachelor’s degree to pursue a PhD?

Yes, students with a Bachelor’s degree can pursue a PhD at IHU, requiring a total of 75 credits, including 30 credits required for the Master’s curriculum. Additionally, students who have started Master’s courses at other accredited universities but have not completed them can transfer a maximum of 12 credits towards the Master’s curriculum at IHU, upon payment of the prescribed fee.

Are there any scholarships or reductions available for PhD students?

Scholarships or reductions are determined by the Administration in consultation with mentors. Any decisions regarding scholarships or reductions are made after discussions with mentors.

What is the role of Dharmic studies in the PhD curriculum?

As per accreditation society requirements, 15% of the total credit requirements for each degree should be from the field of Dharmic studies. This ensures a balanced and comprehensive approach to the curriculum.

Can students pursue both Master’s and PhD degrees simultaneously?

Yes, students who are pursuing a PhD after completing a Bachelor’s degree can take courses related to both Master’s and PhD degrees simultaneously. However, the PhD will be conferred upon completion of the 75 credits, while the Master’s Degree may be conferred upon completion of the 30 credits related to the Master’s curriculum, excluding credits related to the PhD curriculum.
