About
Dr. Patanjali Dev Nayar is an internationally acclaimed physician, public health leader, and global health strategist with more than four decades of experience in medicine, health systems, rehabilitation, and international development.
He most recently served as Regional Adviser for Disability, Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation at the World Health Organization (WHO) South-East Asia Regional Office, providing strategic guidance and technical leadership to countries across the region.
Dr. Nayar holds an MBBS with Gold Medal and Distinction, a Diploma in Ophthalmology, a Diploma in Health Systems Management from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and advanced training in Adolescent Health from the University of Lausanne.
Throughout his career with WHO and other international initiatives, he has worked extensively on public health policy, rehabilitation, disability inclusion, assistive technology, road safety, adolescent health, and health systems strengthening. He has advised governments, UN agencies, academic institutions, and international organizations on evidence-based health policies and national strategies.
His contributions include advancing the WHO Assistive Products List, supporting National Assistive Technology Apex Centres, and contributing to regional implementation of Rehabilitation 2030. He has also mobilized international partnerships and resources to strengthen healthcare systems, particularly in resource-constrained settings.
As the Founder of Health and Rehabilitation Technologies (HeART), India, Dr. Nayar continues to promote innovation, accessibility, equity, and universal access to healthcare, with a strong commitment to improving health outcomes and quality of life globally.
